We’ve migrated the issue indexer from Meilisearch to Typesense.
The reason for this was solely because we can run Typesense in HA on our k8s cluster while Meilisearch doesn’t support HA at all in the free/self-hosting tier. As we are striving towards a full HA stack, this migration brings us closer to this goal.
As part of this switch, you might experience a slight different behavior in the return of search results in issues and PRs. This is because both tools have their own algorithms for that. In our own testing, we didn’t find any specific practical differences though.
To accomplish this migration, we’ve built our own Typesense connector within Forgejo. Upstream Forgejo does not support Typesense and there isn’t any active work at the moment to add support for it. If you are interested in using it in your instance, you can use our custom-built forgejo-codefloe binaries.
